This invention relates to a device and method for generating tinnitus matched data and linking it to a digital tinnitus management system. The system captures a patient’s auditory response to customized sound signals across varying frequencies and volumes to identify their unique tinnitus characteristics. These inputs are processed through a wearable or external device that adjusts the signal in fine steps and matches it to the patient's perception. The matched data is sent to a connected application that analyzes the tinnitus score and delivers a suggestive treatment plan, such as sound therapy, counselling, or attention diversion. This complete loop – from detection to e-prescription – offers an accessible, accurate, and technology-driven method for managing tinnitus effectively.
Tinnitus is a condition where individuals experience ringing or buzzing sounds in the ears without any external sound source. This affects concentration, sleep, and mental health, often leading to anxiety and depression. Existing diagnostic tools lack the precision to capture the patient’s exact tinnitus profile, and there is no universally approved cure. Patients often receive generic treatments that are not tailored to their specific experience, leading to poor results and frustration.
- Personalized Audio Tone Generation: The wearable device generates customized audio tones that match the patient's perceived tinnitus frequency and volume.
- High-Precision Frequency and Volume Matching: The system uses frequency step selection as fine as 20 Hz and 1 dB volume resolution to ensure accurate tone matching for each patient.
- Wireless Data Communication: The matched tinnitus data is displayed on the device and wirelessly transmitted to an external mobile platform for further analysis and tracking.
- Integrated App for Management and Prescription: An integrated mobile application manages the tinnitus data, generates a tinnitus score, and provides suggestions for electronic prescriptions (e-prescriptions).
- Support for Multiple Therapy Modes: The device supports a variety of therapies including sound masking, counseling, attention diversion, and continuous tracking of the patient's recovery progress.
A compact, lab-tested prototype has been developed with precise frequency (100 Hz–20 kHz, 20 Hz steps) and volume (up to 100 dB SPL, 1 dB steps) control. It features a user-friendly interface with a patient response button, display screen, and audio adjustment switches. The device includes waveform generators, a DAC, and headphone output, and supports Bluetooth-based wireless data transfer. Portable and USB-powered, it is suitable for both clinical and home use, with the ability to store and transmit tinnitus data for e-prescription generation.
A working prototype has been developed and tested. The device includes all functional units such as frequency generation, user interface, data display, and wireless transmission. Integration with the mobile platform for tinnitus scoring and therapy management has been validated in lab conditions.
