N3IWF and SDN Controller

Technology consiist of three key components:

• Non 3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF)
• SDN Controller
• NWu Interface Stack over Wi-Fi interface for User Equipment (Mobile Device)

One of the key features enabled by the software components is the integration of WLAN (WiFi) with 5G Core network. The Non 3GPP Interworking Function (N3IWF) enables inter-workjng of WiFi based access network with 3GPP compliant 5G Core via standard N2/N3 interfaces. It also supports the 3GPP defined NWu interface, to be used by mobile devices to connect with N3IWF and 5G Core over untrusted WLANs (untrusted WiFi access). We have also developed the NWu interface stack on the mobile device to enable connectivity between the mobile device and N3IWF over WiFi access.

In addition, an SDN Controller has been developed to control and manage the N3IWF and WiFi access points in the network.
