Dr. Chaudhuri and his team at IITB have invented a device and method for advertising through video display systems. It has an image analyzer that extracts characteristic features from the frames of the video sequence of a recorded scene for creation of projective 3D reconstruction. It locates the planar regions in projective 3D reconstruction of the scene. It identifies the areas in planar regions in which the so the advertisement can be inserted and determines the largest planar region from the identified planar regions for the insertion of the advertisements. A parameter evaluator in the system locates the largest planar regions of the video sequence for insertion of the advertisements. The parameter evaluator also locates the largest planar regions in each frame of the video sequence for insertion of the representations of the advertisement and identifies the start and end times of the largest planar regions in each frame with metadata. The image synthesizer present in the system augments the identified largest planar region in each frame of the video sequence with the advertisement from a database and calculates the virtual space occupied by the representations in the video sequence. It also determines the duration of the advertisement selected in the video sequence for billing.
