The IIT Bombay Rocket Team, a group of passionate rocketry enthusiasts, works tirelessly each year to design and build a new rocket from scratch. Their primary goal is to compete at the prestigious Spaceport America Cup in New Mexico, USA, where they have consistently pushed the boundaries of rocket design and performance.
In their second attempt at the Spaceport America Cup in 2024, the team’s rocket Agastya participated in the COTS category and achieved remarkable success, securing 2nd place nationally and 35th overall, demonstrating a 2x improvement from their previous performance. Not only has the team exceled on the international stage, but they have also achieved significant national victories at various prestigious competitions, solidifying their reputation as one of India’s leading rocketry teams.
Looking ahead, the team is excited to transition into the Student Researched and Developed (SRAD) category, as they embark on an ambitious journey of indigenous motor manufacturing—a critical step toward self-reliance and innovation. Their journey began with their first rocket, Adyant, and they now aim to take their designs to new heights with their upcoming SRAD rocket. The team’s continuous success is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
The team extends their sincere gratitude to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for providing the essential resources and opportunities that have helped them excel in these competitive arenas. Special appreciation goes to their mentors, Prof. Neeraj Kumbhakarna and Prof. Nagendra Kumar, for their invaluable guidance and support.
