This invention outlines a modified seat design for public transport and utility vehicles which, when unlocked, unfolds into a comfortable stretcher that can be used to carry a patient in the absence of an ambulance. The “seat-cum-stretcher” design is equipped with 2 flaps, which unfold from under the seat and lock to transform the seat into a full-size stretcher. It is also equipped with rollers and handles that help the responders carry the patient.
In the case of an emergency, timely transport of the patient to medical services can be the difference between life and death. In the absence of an ambulance, public transport or utility vehicles present nearby could be used to transport patients. However, such vehicles are not capable of handling a critical patient safely and comfortably. Thus, there is a need for a system in such vehicles so that they can be used as transport vehicles for injured patients.
- Seat-cum-stretcher system: the seat is designed such that, when unlocked, it can transform into a stretcher which can be used to transport patients comfortably
- Interior modifications: modifications to interior of the vehicles are suggested to accommodate the new design and be better suited for emergency patient transport
First level of the proof-of-concept was made in the workshop and the team is working on the prototype
