Apparatus For Enclosing a Vibration Sensor
Abstract

This patent describes an apparatus for enclosing a vibration sensor. The invention comprises of a body of the sensor provided with one or more slots, a plunger to be fixed inside the body of the apparatus. The plunger is fixed over a plunger slot of the one or more slots. The sensor frame holding the vibration sensor is placed over a sensor slot of the one or more slots in the body. The apparatus further comprises a cap provided on an outer diameter of the apparatus. The cap comprises a screw for adjusting a tightness of the cap over the body of the enclosure.

Problem Statement

Vibration monitoring is key towards predictive maintenance of machines. Every rotating equipment in industry is associated with a unique way of vibration changing characteristics when diagnosed during a fault. Sensor based systems are widely used for measuring machine vibrations. Changes in type of vibration of a particular machine may be captured by the sensor and are further used for diagnosing a fault in the machine. Sensor based system requires extra cost and therefore should be handled with utmost care for retaining long term performance. Sensor based systems face a lot of challenges when deployed in dirt filled and harsh industrial environment. It is very important to provide protection to sensors so that performance of the machine may be measured with utmost accuracy.

Uniqueness of the Solution
  • The body of the apparatus has one or more slots to install the vibration sensors.
  • Screws and Washers apply the predefined level of pressure on compression on the vibration sensor.
  • Magnetic capabilities allow the apparatus body to be applied on various machine entities.

Advantages of the technology:

  • The apparatus being magnetic allows for high portability and allows the enclosing apparatus to be used throughout the factory floor even in otherwise inaccessible areas.
  • Its rigid body makes sure the vibration sensor is safe from shock and dirt giving it more versatile applications
