High Pressure Cell for Testing Tire Sealants
Abstract

A high-pressure cell is designed to test the sealing capability of tire sealant. The cell primarily consists of a glass cylinder, a circular piece of tire cut from the tread area, and provisions for mounting nails of various sizes.

Salient technical features and Advantages of the Technology
  • Requires only a small amount of sealant for testing
  • Apparatus is easy to use
  • Instant testing of tire sealant efficacy possible under the same conditions as an inflated tire
  • Measurement of loss of pressure inversely correlated with the sealing capability of the sealant
  • Vessel made of sheet metal or from a material such as hard plastic or toughened glass
  • A jacketed vessel for controlling the test temperature
