A multi-use biopsy device is designed for efficient tissue sampling. This device features customizable length adjustments, the ability to use various sizes and gauges of needles, and a mechanism that allows for easy needle changes, making it both multi-use and sterilizable. Its reusable design and customizable features make it a versatile tool for various biopsy procedures. The primary impact of this technology is its ability to provide precise and minimally invasive tissue sampling, which is crucial for accurate diagnosis.

 

 

Current devices lack flexibility in terms of needle size and sample length, making them unsuitable for diverse clinical needs and body locations. The traditional biopsy devices may not accommodate different needle throw lengths for precise tissue sampling, accommodate various needle gauges for different sample thicknesses, and enable sterilization and needle replacement for multi-use applications. This device overcomes these limitations by adjusting throw length for different tissue depths and interchangeable needles, enhancing precision, versatility, and cost-effectiveness in biopsy procedures.

The prototype presents a multi-use biopsy device designed for tissue extraction. The core of the device is a dual-needle assembly consisting of a hollow outer needle and a solid inner needle with a notch at its tip. This assembly is housed within a needle holder and length adjustment mechanism, which allows for precise control over the depth of needle penetration. The device is actuated by a button that triggers a spring-loaded mechanism, propelling the needles into the target tissue. A key feature is the adjustable throw length, achieved through a threaded mechanism within the needle holder. This enables customization of the tissue sample size. The device also incorporates a user-replaceable needle assembly and a removable cover for sterilization and reuse.

 

The device can make healthcare more accessible and affordable, especially in low-resource settings. Its reusable design, with replaceable needle parts and sterilization features, addresses the high costs of single-use medical devices, making biopsies more available to more patients. The device's adjustable needle length and ability to use different needle sizes make it suitable for various biopsy procedures and patient needs. This flexibility means it can be used for a wider range of conditions, leading to better diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
