UV Sterilization Unit
IIT Bombay has developed three different models of UV sanitizers
- Portable UV Sterilization Unit
- Germicidal UV cabinet
- Wheeled Sterilization Unit
IIT Bombay has developed three different models of UV sanitizers to inactivate various types of pathogens present on the surfaces of objects. It uses germicidal UVC light to inactivate different types of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, mold spores, protozoa and algae present on the surfaces of various objects. A complete sterilization of outer surfaces of any object can be achieved if they are exposed to UV light inside Portable UV Sterilization Unit and Germicidal UV cabinet for the appropriate time required to inactive the targeted pathogen. Similarly, pathogens can be inactivated by wheeled sterilization unit if surface of various objects are exposed to UV light for the appropriate time required to inactive the targeted pathogen. Portable UV Sterilization Unit and Germicidal UV cabinet can be used to sterilize the surfaces of household items of daily use such as keys, key-rings, cellphones, wallets, etc. A complete sterilization cycle would require directly exposing all surfaces of the objects for recommended exposure time. Wheeled Sterilization Unit can be used to sterilize various objects in an empty room by keeping the unit on for the appropriate time required to inactive the targeted pathogen.
Pathogen inactivation (at least LOG10 inactivation > 4) by these products have been established by conducting representative experiment using MS2 phage (ATCC bacteriophage 15597-B1) with E.coli C3000 (host).
