IIT Bombay Racing Triumphs at Formula Bharat 2024
Coimbatore witnessed an outstanding performance by IIT Bombay Racing at Formula Bharat 2024 held from January 19 to January 24. The team took home the top prize in the Electric Vehicle category, highlighting their dedication to engineering and innovation in the realm of electric vehicle technology.
Formula Bharat provides a platform for up-and-coming engineers to design, build, and test racing cars, encouraging innovation within the automotive field. Students from across the country participate in the competition, showcasing their engineering skills and their ability to advance automotive technologies in unprecedented ways.
IIT Bombay Racing's victory was fueled by their latest prototype, the "E-13," which represents a significant advancement in their design. The 260 kg speedster boasts an electronically limited top speed of 150 kmph, featuring an all-carbon fibre monocoque chassis. The new battery and battery management system developed for the car has been developed in-house. This innovation marks a significant evolution from their previous models, demonstrating the team's relentless pursuit of excellence.
The team extended their appreciation to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for providing the necessary opportunities and facilities for participation in such a competitive event. Their success was also due to the generous support of their sponsors, including NRB Bearings, PCB Power, Godrej & Boyce, and Matter, whose invaluable support throughout the season played a crucial role in the team's accomplishments. Additionally, Bhor Chemicals supplied the pre-prep carbon fibre, a critical component in creating the E-13's innovative carbon fibre monocoque chassis.
Looking ahead, IIT Bombay Racing sets its sights on the international stage, competing in Formula Student Austria in the last week of July. Their ambitious goal is to rank among the top three teams overall, a feat that, given their recent success and trajectory, seems well within reach.
