Wireless ECG Patch for Accurate Placement
Abstract

The device is a 3-layered chest electrode gadget used to record and wirelessly transfer ECG data. A base layer is aligned and pasted on the chest, which places six adhesive points on a defined location. The middle layer is placed above it is a printed circuit film, flexible enough to hold the deformations, which takes the readings. The topmost layer is a flexible silicon mold with markings at each of the 6 points. There will be a battery powered common output which can either have an USB based port or a wireless Bluetooth unit. The limb electrodes are made compact and are differentiable in terms of shape and color.

Problem Statement

ECG is a routine part of any complete medical evaluation, with current ECG methods relying on attaching electrodes to the chest and limbs of the patients. Current ECG systems are restricted in efficacy by their placement accuracy requirement, which is affected in cases of restless patients or patients having certain constraining physical features, and maintaining sterility and reusability of the system across multiple patients. Tangling of the lead wires is an additional hassle, which adversely affects a busy emergency environment. Thus, there is a need for a wireless, flexible, and easy to use electrode positioning system for holter monitoring of ECG.

Uniqueness of the Solution
  • Accurate electrode placement: the device enables fast and accurate positioning of electrodes on patients with constraints like restlessness, body hair, obesity etc.
  • Wireless transmission of data: the device records and transmits ECG data wirelessly via a battery powered Bluetooth hub, eliminating the hassle of wire tangles
  • Smooth integration into current use: the device is simple to use, reduces the level of skill needed for conducting an ECG and is comfortable for the patient
  • Economical: the device is cost effective, accurate, lightweight and easy to carry
Prototype Details

The prototype is a wireless ECG patch with 10 leads divided into chest, upper limb, and lower limb categories. It uses a flexible, waterproof substrate printed with silver and AgCl circuits, backed by adhesive foam with conductive gel. The design ensures accurate placement, user comfort, and wireless data transfer, likely via Bluetooth or USB port, integrated into a signal processing hub.
