This invention relates to a modified Grignard Metathesis (GRIM) polymerization process for the synthesis of conjugated polymers comprising the steps of reacting at least one monomer of formula with Grignard reagent in a first solvent optionally in presence of an inorganic salt; and polymerizing intermediate formed by addition of Ni(II) catalyst dissolved in a second solvent.
