Process for the production of lactic acid from Aspergillus

The present invention provides Aspergillus host cells comprising at least one copy of a gene coding for heterologous lactate dehydrogenase (ldh) operablylinked to a promoter sequence. The present invention also provides a process for the production of lactic acid comprising culturing the Aspergillus host cells having an introduced gene coding for heterologous lactate dehydrogenase (ldh) operably linked toa promoter sequence in a fermentation medium and recovering the lactic acid from the fermentation medium
