About ResCon

ResCon is the Annual Research Conclave for undergraduates students from IIT Bombay and institutions across India, organised by EnPoWER (Engineering Oriented Promotion of Work, Experience and Research), the institute’s research promotion wing, in collaboration with IRCC (Industrial Research and Consultancy Centre) at TechConnect.

The conclave is built to spark engineering curiosity in UG students and to give budding UG researchers a platform to showcase their research work, all wrapped around a lineup of exciting competitions, workshops, keynote talks, and plenty more.

At ResCon, some of the brightest young minds from all across India come together to push research forward. Last year, the conclave saw nearly 500 registrations from undergraduate students across India, with its three themes - Soch, Vichar, and Achar - offering distinct spaces for ideas, insight, and intellectual exchange.

Details

Soch

Where ideas are born.

Everything starts with a thought, and that thought is your Soch.

This is the first round, where teams submit an abstract, a short write-up that explains what your research idea is, why it is new or different, and why it could matter in the real world. Think of it as your elevator pitch, only in a written form. You do not need any fancy language. It simply needs to be clear and impactful.

The abstract submission round is open to all undergraduates across any department or college / institution. There is a wide variety of domains and fields to choose from:

• Biosciences, Biotechnology & Healthcare
• Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
• Aerospace Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Electrical, Electronics & Communication
• Mechanical Engineering, Robotics & Automation
• Physics, Mathematics & Materials Science
• Environmental Science, Energy & Sustainability
• Business, Entrepreneurship & Management

The top teams advance to the next round, where they get the opportunity to present their work at IIT Bombay.

Vichar

Where ideas are shared.

The second round is called Vichar, which translates to “discussion” or “conversation”.

Here, teams design a research poster, a single-page visual that explains their research clearly, creatively, and engagingly. This is an online submission round.

The poster should:

• Highlight your objectives, or what you are trying to achieve
• Show your methodology, or how you are doing it
• Share your key findings or progress so far
• And most importantly, explain why it matters to the world

Think of the poster as a blend of research, storytelling, and design. It should be clear and engaging enough that even someone from a different field can understand the essence of your work at a glance.

The top teams from the poster round move forward to the final presentation stage.

Achar

The Grand Finale (Presentation Round).

Finally, there is Achar, the final stage of ResCon, where teams bring together their research, ideas, and presentation skills.

The top teams are invited to deliver a 15-minute presentation before a panel of judges. This is where they get the full spotlight to share:

• What inspired their research
• The goals of their work
• Their approach to the problem
• What they discovered or built
• The significance of their work for industry, science, or society

This round goes beyond presenting facts and slides. It is an opportunity for teams to demonstrate the value and relevance of their research. The presentation is followed by a Q&A session with a panel of judges, who are professors at IIT Bombay.
